A very dark, dense piece of timber, from the same tree as the finished blank in the right hand panel of this page. Air dried for 10 years.
Heading up as shown is suitable for a through bolt gun, but if you dropped the head of the pattern down 1-2" I think the heading up would also suit English sidelocks.
